Compendium of Technical Product Design

Products that work we can use.
Design that works we want to use!

It is the application of both which breeds success, we should not rely on one single approach. That's why engineers and designers are now invited to come to mutual understanding. We need to call a spade a spade, if the daily routines of creative processes already absorb our attention and energy.

Reliability and inspiration had been addressed seperately for far too long - no more! Andreas Kalweit, Christoph Paul, Dr. Sascha Peters and Reiner Wallbaum just published their »Handbuch für Technisches Produktdesign« (Compendium of Product Design) to effectively and productively boost both. Technology, processes and material are described in text and illustration, on approx. 600 pages. A most detailed overview instead of 15 handbooks squatting four shelves. In three rooms.

Based on their approach to their jobs as industrial designers and illustrators, the publishers went at the compendium: Bold and daring, with the necessary verve to tackle decisions, and to reach their goals while reflecting their road. Once the means of technology are fully understood, this knowledge they put to good use. No function without design - no design without function.

The compendium provides broad technological knowledge for designers, engineers and creatives. The publishers close the gap between the visionary possible and the rationally necessary among design and engineering. Be scientifically, yet vividly presented basic knowledge of material and production, designers and other creatives can immediately apply the information to their daily development processes. The focus is on intuitively accessing the founding technologies and limitations of materials and processes with regards to their possibilities for conceptioning and production.

The »Handbuch für Technisches Produktdesign« has been published in August, 2006 by Springer Verlag, Germany.
